Shamim Sheikh

Dr. Sheikh is a Professor in Civil and Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He has served in key academic roles and holds an adjunct professorship at Zhengzhou University, China. A leading expert in structural engineering, his research focuses on seismic resistance, FRP-reinforced concrete, and infrastructure durability. He has authored over 250 publications, holds a U.S. patent, and contributed to design codes worldwide. His work on upgrading structures with FRP has led to global applications and media recognition. A consultant on complex structural issues, he has advised on seismic assessments of major infrastructure. Dr. Sheikh has received numerous awards, including the ACI Structural Research Award and Pakistan’s Sitara-e-Imtiaz. He has held prestigious fellowships in multiple countries.
